What can I say to sum up my sweet Petra? She is an amazing girl. I am a bit bias-true. She is growing into such a beautiful young lady and surprising me in so many ways. As a baby she was content and happy and very quiet. She didn't go to just anyone. Some thought she was unfriendly or cold...but she is personal. She always has been. You have to invest in her to get the wonderful reward of knowing her. She is deep. Kind. Sweet. Tender. Stubborn. Talented. Gifted! Musical. Artistic. Creative. Elegant. Poised. Particular. Organized. Detailed. Thoughtful. Beautiful. Sophisticated. So many things...and I am discovering so much more as she grows up. When Hailey and Petra were really little I thought how alike they were...as they were both really good babies, content and obedient pretty much. But wow, I was wrong! They are so different.
One thing I am thankful for is for her constant help around the house. She never complains. I am glad that she isn't in a rush to grow up and plays with dolls and little girl things. She helps me in the kitchen and picks up constantly without being asked. Such a servant. She loves a task and gladly performs it until its complete. I am learning we are very similar in many ways. She is a middle child so I know that can be tough. I can't relate to that but I know from observation of my own siblings. She sometimes feels stuck in the middle (especially in the car....poor girl!) But I see a security in her that is amazing. She knows exactly who she is and what she wants to do. Since she was a toddler she wanted to dance. She knocked out her front teeth twirling in the kitchen at 3 years old! I had NO idea what a gift God gave her though. Its truly amazing how He has blessed her. She feels the music and moves effortlessly. She is an excellent musician-being detailed and particular it comes easy to her. She isn't easily distracted. She is sensitive which is wonderful yet sometimes can be her downfall. She takes things to heart easily and gets hurt feelings. She and Adah are the best of friends. They play from morning to night together so sweetly. What a treasure she is to Adah. She is oh, so teachable in music and school! She wants to please. I appreciate that. She loves to sing and has the sweetest, tender operatic voice. She loves classical music and opera. She hears music even when none is played. She loves to re-enact and imagine. (Much like her Mama) Its such a joy to photograph her because she gets into a role and enjoys it so much. She really loves the creative part of it and shares that with me. She loves to go on dates with Mama and Dada. Such a one on one girl. (like me as well) That allows her to open up. I love to take her out for desert and talk just the 2 of us. She thrives on it. Enjoying every bite and every word of conversation. Its awesome. She is such a friend really and I look forward to the years ahead. My precious sweet Petra. My princess. My treasure.
For her birthday we did a special photoshoot like every year. This year I made her for a gift, a gorgeous regency era gown with layers of embroidered netting. Just breathtaking on her. The gold princess crown I had made off a tutorial online with gold paint, venice lace, and modpodge. Her ballet shoes were the perfect prop and we added some old postcards and a skeleton key. We wonder what it unlocked at one time? I had some creative ideas for the shoot and she agreed they were perfect for her! She loves props and dressing up. Most of the clothing for our photoshoot I made which makes her feel so special. Its a joy to create every part of the shoot and really an outlet for both of us.
The Autumn leaves were at their peak so we went to the best place to view them. Her soft pink dress and grey knickers and hat looked adorable nd we brought along her violin to make it personal. She really enjoyed playing songs in the corn fields and sitting by the bale reading "Mozart's story". I tried to make an old fashioned butterfly net with a bamboo stick and netting...sort of turned out.
The gold and grey outfit was something I dreamt up awhile ago. The pattern was early 1950's, and the cape I made up. The herringbone grey and ivory fabric was a great find, and that became the belt and the cape. The gold and ivory dress looked perfect on her. The hat was an antique store treasure from last year that I got for Petra. She thought it looked just like Madeline from the storybook. The hairpiece I created for another option with silks and feathers. We walked around downtown on the brick roads and the trolley station. She pretended she was waiting for her train with her hat box. (Another antique treasure!) Perfect Fall weather!
The custom jeans I added some white lace ruffles and embroidered appliques on the pockets. They turned out adorable and so her. The hairpiece looked perfect to top it off. We did alot of clothing for this shoot! But she was up for it. One of my favorite times with her.
I took her out for a special date later that week just the 2 of us. Dada took her out on her birthday day for a special Italian dinner at our favorite restaurant. I think that it will take quite a guy someday to woo her, as she has a Daddy that does a really good job!
Beautiful Autumn
